Standard Polyester/Cotton Blends

Bed Linen and sheets are available from Britannia Textiles in 3 different polyester cotton blends:

Cotton Rich, Standard Polycotton, and SuperCale

Piling

Pilling is a common problem associated with polycotton blends. It is caused by cotton lint wrapping around strong polyester fibres creating a ball.

Britannia Textiles specifies a 4+ pilling rating (on a scale where 1 is atrocious and 5 is the very best but carries risks of feeling like plastic). The pilling is managed by a number of processes which include flame-singe and resin treatment. This virtually eliminates any possibility of piling as occurs in 'retail' standard sheets.

(1) Cotton Rich - approx 80% Cotton 20% Polyester.

This behaves essentially like 100% Cotton sheets, i.e. has a nice feel, requires ironing, but some additional strength from the polyester component. This is used by some laundries and hospitals where they prefer cotton but allow a little polyester for strength. With modern blends such as SuperCale it is used less and less as the old shiny effect of blends has gone.

The make up is between 75 to 80% cotton.

Not recommended for inhouse laundry use.

(2) Standard Polycotton - 50% Cotton 50% Polyester.

This blend is satisfactory for tumble dry, doesn't normally require ironing, and has extra strength for long life. Good for the budget.

Total thread count is 180 per 10 sq cm.

(3) SuperCale - Premium 50% Cotton 50% Polyester.
For premium end hospitality use where a softer feel is required, Supercale also needs less (if any) ironing. An excellant widely used sheet - Click Here for more info...

(4) Douceur - Top end 28ml striped 312 TC sheets

This is an up market sheet, with a point of difference, that is still made to commercial standards and can be processed easily. Special so bit pricier.

Sheet Specifications

Our standard manufacturing specification is as follows:

· Salvage edge at the sides

· 18mm hem each end

· High quality core-spun polycotton hem thread used for longevity.

· Coloured hem options for identification (not supercale).

Pillowslips to match are available in either envelope or bag style.
